Traveling with young children can cause the whole family to feel extremely stressed and irritated. It’s important that you have some strategies in place to keep your child entertained, distracted, and happy throughout a long flight. Some fun apps and games on your phone or iPad can be a great way to make sure your child is having fun, but these apps should be used as a last resort or just one part of your child’s entertainment. The classic low-tech ways to keep your child entertained, such as reading to him or talking to him, should still be your first choices. If you’re looking for good apps for a flight, check out these five great examples.
Endless Alphabet
Endless Alphabet is available on both Apple and Android devices. The app uses colorful creatures to teach your children the alphabet and how to spell new words. Your children will drag the letters into place to spell certain words, and once they spell them correctly, the cartoon creatures will act out the words on screen. Depending on your child’s reading level, the app will help him spell simpler or more complex words.
Shu’s Garden
You can get Shu’s Garden for both Apple and Android. This is a fun and beautifully animated game that will engage your child’s imagination and creativity. In the game, kids explore a cute alien planet and pick up different types of seeds. They can then plant the seeds, try to find ways to make them grow, and then see what types of things sprout up from the ground.
Pianoball
Currently, Pianoball is only available on Apple devices. Pianoball is an interactive musical game that turns the screen into a trippy musical instrument with changing colors. Children are able to make different sounds, play different instruments, and hear some of their favorite songs. Just remember to bring headphones!
Disney Storytime
Only for Apple devices, Disney Storytime is an app that both you and your child can enjoy. After buying a few storybooks on the device, your child will be able to read classic stories and record his own narration. If he hasn’t mastered reading yet, the stories can narrate themselves.
Toca Mini
Both Android and Apple users can enjoy this strange little app that lets your children draw faces and characters onscreen. The app gives players a large selection of colors to use to make their own masterpieces.
